Balancing the relationship to the material things
Today's society is filled with things. From the point of view of Yoga, the material things are not only the object that existing physically, but also thoughts, information, words etc are counted as material things.
By observing a bird's-eyes point of view of your daily life, don't you agree to that we are swayed by material things in some revel?
In ancient Yoga text book called Upanishad, it describes that humans' big mistake is that we believe our name, feelings, objects we own, our body, etc. are who you are. All these material things are not eternal. They have limitation and at one point, it will disappear. Upanishad described that true "who you are" is no limited, free from past and future, no color, no figure, no scent, no sound......This non object being is called Atman. Lack of understanding this truth makes human ignorant and brings suffer to our life.
You are given the physical body temporary to understand who you really are. Each one of us has its own unique nature to figure this truth out by ourselves. Some are good with singing, some are good with writing, some are good with making objects. Another lesson to us is that whatever we are good at is to offer to other. This lesson is easy to understand in our head but not quite in your daily life action.
Once you created an objects and praised by others, it grow elation. This sensation tastes yummy to most of people, and we became to get it more again and again....In order to taste the same or more yumminess, you start to clinging to the result from your action. This became an attachment to the object. Now your action is for tasting that yumminess rather than pure joy to offer. At this point, you became slave to the object. You lost balance the relationship to the material things. Applying this point of view to look at yourself may help the relationship to the material things.
So you will know who you really are, and you can became a mature Karta (hander) during your journey to Moksha.
